First Day of Kindergarten!

Allison is not much of a breakfast eater, so when she asked if she could have a "special breakfast" on the first day of school, I was surprised. She requested pink pancakes. I happily obliged, reminding her that this wouldn't happen too often. Usually Patrick is the one to get up with the kids and I stagger out of bed an hour later. Yeah, that won't be happening anymore.

Allison is the first stop on her bus route. She is also the first stop on the way home, so it works out good. But she gets on the bus at 6:45am. AH!!! I used to think the 9am preschool drop-off was early. I never knew how good I had it. When my alarm went off at 6am, my first thought was "omg, this is my new reality." But the twins are sleeping through the night (mostly) so I should be  able to adjust fine :-) Time will tell.

My oldest child was beyond excited to go to school. We put her on the bus and then Patrick drove to Florence to meet her there and help her get to her classroom. He said she has a really long walk....and he didn't really know how to get to her class either. Florence is a big school for those little people! Our good friend, Jen, was waiting for her child too, and helped Patrick navigate the hallways. Allison wears a sticker for the first five days to help others help her get to Mrs. Hagen's class. But what about day #6??? These are the things I worry about.

I did not cry or even get weepy about my 5-year old (sorry, 5 and A HALF) going to K. She was ready and she will do great. But I am overwhelmed and a bit anxious. She was put in a K/1stGrade split, which makes me a bit nervous. I want her first year to be FUN, not full of first grade stuff. Mrs. Hagen assured me that it will be Kindergarten and lots of fun. Her classroom is awesome and from the few minutes we spoke, she seems so wonderful. She reminds me of Mary Poppins....super fun, nice, pretty, but very firm and organized. And who doesn't love Mary Poppins! She is also young (lots of technology) and is getting her masters (very motivated).

First Day of School Q & A:

What was the best part? The playground, Mom!! They had a rainbow slide and THREE monkey bars. I loved it so much.
What did you not like? Going to the thinking table. I had to put my head down and think about not talking to Elena. I don't want to go there again.
How was lunch? Good, but I didn't eat much.
Did you meet any new friends? Yes, on the bus; and at my class. I like Elena...and some other kids but I don't remember their names (I hope Elena doesn't mean trouble....)
What was 1 thing you did that was fun? I already told you, the playground.
Did you learn anything? We counted to 100
Do you want to go back? yes
